More on Roofs:
Joyce built The Glencroft while living in Vero Beach, Florida, in 1991.  Her Glencroft has a "thatched roof."  She filled in roof corners where gables meet the main roof section.  Using wood putty, Joyce put small amounts in the curves each day and sun dried the house each time, for about ten days.  Each shingle was laid individually to be shaped to fit the curve, leaving no gaps between them.  For the outside corners and roof peaks, shingles were first applied to wax paper (for easy removal) and misted with water to make them flexible, then laid in place by bending them to fit the curve.  Hot glue kept them in place.  The roof was sanded to remove sharp edges and perfect rounded edges.  Painted in dull yellow, with acrylic craft paint, the roof was then finished off with a water-based acrylic antiquing paint, and wiped down for special effect.  All visible walls, inside and out, were stuccoed before assembly.  All timber work, including floors and beams, were stained walnut and varnished, prior to construction.

Windows are pin-hinged with straight pins inserted in the frames while they were being assembled.  Pins were then glued between the interior window frame and wall, on final assembly.  Doors were also hung with pins inserted into the floor.
This house is wired with hard wire lamps, disguised in the chimney and by the front door.  A strip of tape wire runs on the bottom of the first floor, leading to a junction splice in a lower corner.
